Terms & Conditions

The terms every participating student, team and institution agrees to as a condition of taking part in Tankopanijam.

Placeholder — not final This page is a mock-up written to hold the shape of the agreement while the real language is prepared. It is not legal advice and not a binding agreement, and it has not been reviewed by counsel.

Final terms will be supplied by Nemours legal and will replace this page in full before applications open.

01 Ownership of everything created

Everything produced during the event belongs to the Nemours Estate. That includes, without limitation, source code, executables and builds, game design documents, mechanics and systems, art and 3D assets, music and sound, writing, and any other materials created or contributed during the event, in draft or final form.

This applies to all work made for the competition, whether or not it is submitted, whether or not it is finished, and whether or not it appears in the final build.

02 What creators keep

Participants are the creators of their work and are recognised as such. Every participant may freely and permanently state that they made their game for Tankopanijam, and may name the event, the year, their team and their role when they do.

That credit may be used in portfolios, résumés, personal websites, applications for study or employment, and interviews.

You made it. You can always say you made it. The Estate owns it.

Creator credit does not carry any right to license, sell, distribute, modify or commercially exploit the work, or to authorise anyone else to do so.

03 No compensation

No payment, royalty, revenue share, equity or other compensation is offered or owed to any participant for the work created during the event, or for the Estate's ownership and use of it — including where the Estate continues to use, adapt or distribute the work after the event.

Participation is voluntary. Prizes and awards, where offered, are given at the organisers' discretion and are not compensation for the work or for the transfer of rights.

04 Participating schools

The college or university a team represents is granted access to that team's work for the sole purpose of showcasing its students' work as evidence of its academic programs — for example in accreditation materials, programme reviews, open days, recruitment and course marketing.

This access does not transfer ownership. Institutions may not license, sell, distribute or commercially exploit the work, or authorise others to do so, and no compensation is owed to any institution in connection with the work or its use.

05 Still to be drafted

The final agreement is expected to also cover:
